DESERT ISLAND CD

My man, Castor Troy, came up with a great follow-up to last year’s Desert Island DVD’s post (wherein we picked what 7 DVD’s we’d take with us if we were stranded on a Desert Island). The idea is simple: You can burn one CD to bring with you to a deserted island. There’s only one stipulation. Since we’re movie bloggers, all songs must be featured on a movie soundtrack.

You’ll find mine below. I did not pick my favorite movie soundtrack songs of all time but rather put together an upbeat eclectic mix of songs that would help kill the time and make me forget the depression that comes from living alone on a deserted island. That being said, check it out:

1. WHERE IS MY MIND? – THE PIXIES (FIGHT CLUB)

2. HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN – THE ANIMALS (CASINO)

3. DAMN IT FEELS GOOD TO BE A GANGSTA – GETO BOYS (OFFICE SPACE)

4. BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY – QUEEN (WAYNE’S WORLD)

5. THE POWER OF LOVE – HUEY LEWIS & THE NEWS (BACK TO THE FUTURE)

6. WAKE UP – ARCADE FIRE (WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE)

7. WE ARE SEX BOB-OMB – BECK (SCOTT PILGRIM vs. THE WORLD)

8. DON’T YOU  FORGET ABOUT ME – SIMPLE MINDS (THE BREAKFAST CLUB)

9. LOSE YOURSELF – EMINEM (8 MILE)

10. SHE SELLS SANCTUARY – THE CULT (LAYER CAKE)

11. I AM A MAN OF CONSTANT SORROW – THE SOGGY BOTTOM BOYS (0 BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU?)

12. MULLETHEAD – BEASTIE BOYS (CLUELESS)

  1. I’d have to have “Born Slippy” by Underworld (Trainspotting)
    “Spybreak!” by Propellorheads (The Matrix)
    “Elysium” from Gladiator
“Moving in Stereo” The Cars (Fast Times, when Phoebe Cates is coming outta the pool

  2. The whole list is great, but I could easily have numbers 1-6 on my list (and will have at least one of them). This CD would make me a very happy man for sure, and I love the spanning of genres and times. It doesn’t have eeeeverything, but for 12 songs, the representation is very solid.

Dave – oooh, Born Slippy might be making my list, as well as a different Matrix song (though Spybreak is a great song also).

    • Fletch, that whole Matrix soundtrack was fantastic. It was a shame they couldn’t recapture the magic with the next 2 films.

  3. You’re shout outs to Layer Cake and Scott Pilgrim make me smile:)

  4. Love the Soggy Bottom Boys – love that whole soundtrack actually. Hmm, gotta start thinking about mine.

  5. Yeaa… high five on Bohemian Rhapsody 🙂
I didn’t know House of The rising sun is a soundtrack

  6. Fuck. That’s an awesome list. I don’t even know what else to say. Well done, man.

  7. Great work, Kai. The only other soundtrack songs I can remember are:

    Colors by IcedT
That one Rage Against the Machine song that ends the Matrix
America Eff Yeah by Trey Parker and Matt Stone

  8. Awesome Desert Island CD Kai! I know and love most of those already. Glad to see Lose Yourself, Bohemian Rhapsody and Don’t You Forget About Me in there, definitely gave the former 2 heavy consideration.

  9. Can completely see someone singing Man of Constant Sorrow on an island! haha Love the fact that you mentioned that one!

  10. Dude – turn this shit up so I can hear it over on my island too…..

  11. Okay good a second Wayne’s World. I feel like a dolt for forgetting it. Lose Yourself is a great pick. I never thought I would like Eminem until I heard this song. That’s what great about soundtracks. Super cool mix.

  12. good list, The List!

  13. You are the fuckin’ man!!! Bohemian Rhaposdy AND Don’t You Forget About me? FUCKIN’ A!!

  14. some good stuff but wasn’t Arcade Fire only featured in the trailer for WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE? Pretty much the entire soundtrack was Karen O and the Kids, no?
