MY TOP 5 MOVIE SPACE VESSELS

Posted in Science Fiction with tags , , , , , on January 31, 2011 by Kaiderman

All right, they’re really space ships but how often do you get to use the word vessel on a daily basis? Here’s my top 5 (in order in awesome):

5. THE BATTLESTAR GALACTICA.

Why is the BSG so important? Only cause it holds the fate of humanity in it’s hands. I’m not going to spend a ton of time arguing this pick. Either you’ve watched BSG and totally agree or you haven’t and should go slam your head into a brick wall fifty or a thousand times! Continue reading

FILMS THAT DEFINED US

Posted in Film, Films That Defined Us, MEME, Movies with tags , , , , on August 13, 2010 by Kaiderman

This is a new MEME put together by Marc (my Zombie loving friend) over at Go, See, Talk! Please, after reading this, stop by and check out some of the other people’s posts that will be popping up all over the blogosphere today. Here’s the basic idea…

We’re all picking a handful of films that had a profound impact on us in our impressionable years. We are also setting out to answer the following about each:

1. What dazzled us about the film at a young age?

2. How the film holds up?

3. Why you think it sets the standard for the genre of choice?

I’ll do my best. Here’s my 5: Continue reading

I have been invited by ANDY from THE FANDANGO GROOVERS MOVIE BLOG and HEATHER from MOVIE MOBSTERS have invited me back for a 2nd time to take part in their discussion of films that have influenced a genre (take that M. CARTER). This time around the focus is THE FINAL FRONTIER… and I got the Grand Daddy of them all:

“A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…” Continue reading

FAVORITE STAR WARS CHARACTERS

Posted in Film, Movies, Star Wars with tags , , , , , , , , , on April 17, 2010 by Kaiderman

I just realized we’ve been up and running for about 4 months now and have failed to dedicate a single post to Star Wars. A travesty which I intend to rectify today.

You see, I’ve been a Star Wars fan my entire life. The first movie I ever went to, though I was in my mother’s belly at the time, was Star Wars. As a kid, I had almost every action figure, ship and playset Kenner ever made. A collection I set out to restore in my 20’s. Here’s a glimpse at the current toy room:

Between that and the movie obsession, I’m as shocked as you that the Editor-in-Chief said yes when I got down on one knee… believe me!

But I digress, so, I thought it would be interesting to thumb through the old collection and dive into the seemingly endless world of characters George Lucas has created over the years and pick my favorites. I’ll admit, like most my lists, time and circumstance can change my opinions. However, right now, these are my Top 10 FAVORITE STAR WARS CHARACTERS.

Here we go (in order): Continue reading

GREATEST THREEQUELS

Posted in Film, Humor, Movies, Threequels with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on February 13, 2010 by Kaiderman

Well, I was going to broach sequels this week but I have ADHD and, at the last second, decided to go in another direction. I decided why not take a look at a much stranger animal… the Threequel.

NOTE: For our purposes here, Threequel will refer to the third movie in a series and may or may not have “Part 3” in the title.

Threequels are very interesting in that if a 3rd movie in a series is being put out, chances are it’s based on a very popular property. Chances are also good that you were very excited to see it. And, of course, chances are Part 3 just wasn’t that good. See, Threequels are typically just formulaic concoctions, featuring characters you know and love, designed to suck out everything else that drew you to a franchise in the first place. However, they can also be something else. They can also redeem a series of films that lost their way on the always difficult Part 2. While this is rare, it does happen. And I thought it’d be interesting to look at some of the films that got it right. So, away we go, as I present you with this week’s list: GREATEST THREEQUELS. Continue reading
