TOP 5 CHARACTERS: QUENTIN TARANTINO

Posted in Top 5 with tags , , , , , on April 5, 2011 by Kaiderman

I have to admit that this is one of the hardest lists I’ve ever tried to throw together. If there’s one thing Quentin Tarantino does well, it’s write great characters. However, if there’s one thing I love, it’s challenging myself. So, here’s my Top 5 Quentin Tarantino characters. Enjoy:

5. THE BRIDE (aka: BEATRIX KIDDO).

FILM: KILL BILL VOL. 1, 2 & 3 (announced)

While many will say that QT made Kill Bill because of his infatuation for Uma Thurman’s feet, I believe there’s a lot more going on here that gets ignored. Kill Bill is an interesting take on storytelling, even from a guy who prides himself on trashing traditional methods of storytelling. I think QT used it as an attempt to do what James Cameron did with the character of Ellen Ripley in the Aliens franchise. That is, to create a strong female protagonist in a male dominated landscape. Ultimately he succeeds and deserves recognition for his efforts. Continue reading

MOVIE MONOLOGUES I LOVE

Posted in Film, Movies with tags , , , , on July 13, 2010 by Kaiderman

I wouldn’t go so far as to call these the greatest monologues of all time but they are 5 I LOVE. I could have put up audio clips but I think it’s better to see them as they appeared in the script, the way the actor first saw them. Check them out:

BULL DURHAM.

“Well, I believe in the soul, the cock, the pussy, the small of a woman’s back, the hanging curve ball, high fiber, good scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent, overrated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days.”  CRASH DAVIS (KEVIN COSTNER)

I think this one is great because the manner in which it’s delivered. He doesn’t hesitate… he’s knows who he is. Plus, he manages to sound manly and romantic in the same breath. Continue reading

Well, it’s that time of year, kiddies. As I’ve made very clear in posts in the past, if there’s one thing that gets your friendly neighborhood Kaiderman a going, it’s Movies! I love all aspects of the film making process. I follow films from pitch and development, through production and even keep an eye on box office results to see how things worked out. All that time and effort culminates into award season, which we are balls deep in now. The height of awards season, regardless of what anyone might say on Access Hollywood, is the Academy Awards. With the nominations just a couple of days away, and the ceremony looming, I figured we’d talk some Oscars.

I thought this week we’d have a look back at some of the “Shockers” that rocked the industry. We’ll focus on the grand prize: Best Picture. I thought this year would be a great time to do this because, as many of you all ready know, the Academy has changed the format this year. This year the ceremony will feature 10 films in the Best Picture category, instead of the typical 5. While the true contenders, possibly even the winner, will most likely be fairly evident, the chances of an upset are much higher than normal now. And if there’s one thing the academy can do, it’s provide an upset. So, in honor of this, I present you with this week’s list (in order): THE 10 GREATEST BEST PICTURE UPSETS Continue reading
