IS IT JUST ME?

Posted in Is It Just Me? with tags , , on August 21, 2010 by Kaiderman

I was just thinking about this while listening to my buddies over at the Frankly, My Dear podcast as they reviewed the Indiana Jones trilogy. At the end of the film, Indy must complete 3 tests in order to retrieve the cup of Christ and save his dying father.

Now, many have tried, and lost their head in the process, but Indy figures it out with the help of his father’s clues. The first clue, Indy figures out is to be a pennitent man and kneel before God to avoid the saw that’s been chopping of those heads. I want to know how he knows to follow that up with a ninja roll to avoid the 2nd saw that pops up out of the ground. Seriously… rewatch the scene. Is it just me?

DESERT ISLAND DVD’S

Posted in Desert Island DVD's, Film, Humor, Movies with tags , , , , , , , on April 11, 2010 by Kaiderman

So, good ol’ Andy, at the Fandango Groovers Movie Blog site, has got  a bunch of us bloggers from around the world, and the blog-o-sphere, to put up a post featuring what DVD’s we would take with us if we got stranded on a desert island (Limit 8). Don’t overthink it and ask how we would play these DVD’s… my guess is I would use my above average intelligence to fashion something out of coconuts, bamboo and vines… just go with it!

GREATEST THREEQUELS

Well, I was going to broach sequels this week but I have ADHD and, at the last second, decided to go in another direction. I decided why not take a look at a much stranger animal… the Threequel.

NOTE: For our purposes here, Threequel will refer to the third movie in a series and may or may not have “Part 3” in the title.

Threequels are very interesting in that if a 3rd movie in a series is being put out, chances are it’s based on a very popular property. Chances are also good that you were very excited to see it. And, of course, chances are Part 3 just wasn’t that good. See, Threequels are typically just formulaic concoctions, featuring characters you know and love, designed to suck out everything else that drew you to a franchise in the first place. However, they can also be something else. They can also redeem a series of films that lost their way on the always difficult Part 2. While this is rare, it does happen. And I thought it’d be interesting to look at some of the films that got it right. So, away we go, as I present you with this week’s list: GREATEST THREEQUELS. Continue reading
