MY TOP 10 MOST ANTICIPATED FILMS OF 2011

Posted in TOP 10 MOVIES with tags on January 13, 2011 by Kaiderman

Are these the best films that will come of 2011? Time will tell but most likely not! Still, these are the films I’m jonesing to see in the year to come. I fear this sentiment will be destroyed by the execution of these films when they hit theaters but, for now, here’s what’s got me excited (in order):

10. PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES (May 20).

So, the last 2 films sucked but Black Pearl was a great movie and Jack Sparrow is one of the greatest characters in movie history. Let’s hope now that the old story line is done, they’ll get back to their roots. Continue reading

MY TOP 10 FILMS OF 2010

Posted in TOP 10 MOVIES with tags on January 11, 2011 by Kaiderman

So, it’s a time to take a look back on the back of 2010. While most people like to list the best films of 2010, I prefer listing my favorite. While they may not end up winning Oscars, I feel they were the most entertaining.

Before we jump in, I’d like to list the films that I still haven’t seen that I could easily see making my Top 10. Here they are:
True Grit, Black Swan, Jackass 3D, Due Date, The Karate Kid, The Social Network, Tron Legacy, Pirahna 3D, Let Me In & Waiting for Superman.

With that out of the way, let’s get into it. Here’s my Top 10 (in order):

10. PREDATORS.

A fresh take on what was turning into a tired franchise. The casting on this was fantastic and it turned out to be good old cinematic fun.

9. PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2.

Say what you will about the P.A. movies, this was a solid follow up to one of my favorite films of last year. Continue reading

MY TOP 10 CHRISTMAS MOVIES

Posted in Christmas, TOP 10 MOVIES with tags , on December 24, 2010 by Kaiderman

If you’re looking for classics, then you’ve just plain ol’ come to the wrong blog. However, I’ve got what I think is the must see list of films for this holiday season. So, in honor of tomorrow’s holiday, here are my Top 10 Christmas Movies (in order):

10. How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

I don’t know how much people like Ron Howard’s live action adaptation of this Dr. Seuss classic but I loves it. Most of that love is due to Jim Carrey’s performance as the Grinch which is a role that totally suits his personality. A personality that shines through even through all of that make-up.

9. Black Christmas.

If you didn’t think I was going to put some horror up here, well, you just don’t know me at all. While Silent Night, Deadly Night is great, I’m a fan of good old Black Christmas. Both versions are great but I even kind of prefer the horrible remake… mainly because the girls are just hotter! Continue reading

MY TOP 10 GAMBLING MOVIES

Posted in TOP 10 MOVIES with tags , , , , , on December 11, 2010 by Kaiderman

I got 5 bucks says you love this list. I also got 5 bucks says you may not like it. It’s not the smart way to gamble but I never lose any money so is that really a bad thing?

I really wanted to do a Top 5 Poker Movies list but there aren’t many out there and, of the ones that are out there, I don’t feel like watching them all. My apologies to Kenny Roger’s The Gambler… and his chicken establishment. They’re no KFC!

So, I’ve widened the field to include all forms of gambling. Here’s my Top 10 (in order):

10. SWINGERS.

Swingers only comes in at #10 because, technically, it is not a gambling movie. However, it does feature one of the greatest and most comical gambling scenes ever caught on film. It also taught me what Double Down meant and made the phrase “Vegas, Baby! VEGAS!” legendary. Continue reading

MY TOP 10 TIME TRAVEL MOVIES

Posted in Time Travel, TOP 10 MOVIES with tags , , on November 20, 2010 by Kaiderman

I was recently relistening to an older episode of The Film Cynics radio show that featured my co-host for the MILFcast, the one and only Heather Roddy. On the show, she was asked to give a list of her Top 5 Time Travel movies. Now, I’ll be the first to admit that I LOVE Heather’s lists. Next to me, she’s probably the best around! However, while listening, there were some great films for this sub-genre that I noticed failed to be mentioned.

As a result, I feel compelled to throw my 2 cents out there because, honestly, I think Time Travel might be my favorite kind of film. So, I present to you, my fine feathered friends, MY TOP 10 TIME TRAVEL MOVIES. Here they are (in order):

HONORABLE MENTION: TRIANGLE

I’ve been pimping this movie on this site for months and no one that has taken me up on my recommendation so far has been disappointed. The only problem is I’m not sure if it’s technically a quote-un-quote “Time Travel” movie. It may in fact ba a parallel dimension movie. For that reason, it merely gets an honorable mention but if I get proof to the contrary it would easily shoot to #5 on my list.

10. THE TIME MACHINE (2002).

This one is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. I know most people tend to prefer the original film adaptation of this H.G. Wells classic but I have a soft spot for the Guy Pearce version. As cheesy as the film can be, there are some great images in this film (such as the moon cracking to pieces) and I love where this film takes this Time Travel story after starting as a search for lost love type of film. LEAST INTERESTING FILMS OF 2010

Posted in TOP 10 MOVIES with tags on November 13, 2010 by Kaiderman

It’s about that time where bloggers everywhere start doing their end of the year lists. However, it’s a bit premature for best and worst lists as studios still like to dump films in December, be it for Oscar nominations or just to plain get them off their slate for tax purposes. Still, I think now is as good a time as any to start looking back on the films that just didn’t matter. So, without further Mountain Dew, I present you with films that meant about as much to me as a set of Double D’s on a dude…. these are my LEAST INTERESTING FILMS OF 2010. Here ya go (in order):

SIDENOTE: I should mention that I haven’t seen any of these films so, for all I know, they may be great but I see everything… I’m that guy that thinks Rom Coms with Jennifer Aniston look good… so the fact that these films didn’t peak the slightest bit of interest from me says something.

10. GREEN ZONE.

Of all the films on this list, this is the one I’m most likely to see. Let’s be honest though, most of the films made about the Iraq Wars (The Hurt Locker excluded) have been pretty weak. I’ll probably give this one a look because the talent involved is undeniable but I’d much more prefer it if it had Bourne in the title!

9. EAT, PRAY, LOVE.

More like Yawn, Sleep, Snore! Mind you, I’m probably not the demographic they were chasing with a film about a woman in her 40’s rediscovering herself and her sexuality. Still, think I’ll take a pass on this one and leave it for all you Oprah lovers! Continue reading

MY TOP 10 FAVORITE VAMPIRE FILMS

Posted in Horror, TOP 10 MOVIES, Vampires with tags , , on November 2, 2010 by Kaiderman

I know Halloween has come and gone but I’m not ready to say goodbye yet. So, I thought we’d put one more Horror post out there. Vampires are one of the greatest monsters ever created in fiction… 2nd only to Zombies in my book! I tend not to care as much for old Dracula style vampire films and while I enjoy the new Twinkly kind they aren’t my first choice either. I typically prefer a meaner modern-day vampire. Below, I’ve listed my Top 10 “go-to” Vampire films (in order)… enjoy:

SIDENOTE: I’m not saying these are the best Vampire films ever made. These are my favorites to watch. So, please save your diatribes in the comments section about why Nosferatu should be on this list!

10. DAYBREAKERS.

The newest entry on the list falls only at number 10 for that reason. It hasn’t been around long enough to fully resonate with me yet. Still, the concept for this one is so cool, in a genre that’s been beaten to death, that I have to say I loved it. The fact that it was a great watch helps a lot too even if it fell a bit short of its potential on execution.

9. BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER.

If there’s ever a chance to feature something from the mind of Joss Whedon on one of my lists, I’m going to do it. Buffy is a super fun film that inspired years of what I hear is even better television. What still amazes me is that it managed to do so with a cast that featured the likes of Luke Perry and Pee Wee himself. Kristi Swanson hotness sure can compensate for a lot of things! TOP 10 MOVIES: JOHN HUGHES

Posted in TOP 10 MOVIES with tags on October 16, 2010 by Kaiderman

It’s great to find lists on THE LIST again, isn’t it? To keep with the theme of making them as challenging as possible, I’ve picked one of the most talented men around for this week’s Top 10 Movies!

John Hughes’ passing was one of the saddest things that ever happened to Hollywood. I dare you to find a screenwriter with a better resume featuring so many diverse films. SERIOUSLY! Hughes gets pigeonholed as being the teen comedy guy but his reach goes so far beyond that. He’s had some flops, don’t get me wrong, but his greats are more than that. They’re classics! What makes them so great comes from Hughes’ ability to balance comedy with understanding relationships of all types. Not to mention he manages to capture the experience of growing up better than anyone… something we can all identify with.

This was literally like trying to pick my favorite kid but I managed to pull it off. So, here we go (in order):

SIDENOTE: I have not seen She’s Having a Baby, Some Kind of Wonderful or Curly Sue so they are not in contention for this list!

10. PRETTY IN PINK.

I wanted to put The Great Outdoors at #10. Editor-in-Chief convinced me that Pretty in Pink needs to be on this list. I agree… it is a good film. It’s just that I’m a dude. So, I’ll just say that Pretty in Pink makes it for Duckie cuz that guy is awesome and he never gets a break. Continue reading

TOP 10 MOVIES: TOM CRUISE

Posted in TOP 10 MOVIES with tags on October 3, 2010 by Kaiderman

So, apparently there was some confusion over my last list featuring Tom Cruise’s greatest performances. While Tom Cruise gives great performances every now and then, his best films just feature Tom being Tom. So, I present you with my Top 10 Tom Cruise movies. Here they are (in order):

10. THE OUTSIDERS.

I’m sure other people would put other Cruise films above this, especially since he has one of the smaller roles in the film, but I can’t help loving this film about Greasers from the wrong side of the track. Not to be confused with Greasers from the right side of the track! Continue reading
