For those of you new to the site, here’s the idea behind this post:

On a boring Tuesday morning, of a week with no good new releases, I decided to rent a film I stumbled across that I had never even heard of. That film was Oldboy and it proceeded to blow my mind. Since then, I have lent the film to several of my friends and their experience mirrored mine.

This post was put together in an attempt to recreate that experience and hopefully present you with some films that may have flown under your radar. Films that are collecting dust in the “Favorites” aisle of your local video store… waiting to be checked out… and make you say, “How the hell did I miss this film?

To help me, as always, I’ve called some friends in. Fellow bloggers whose work I enjoy. Helping me today are:

Olive O’Brien from Movie News First

Marc from Go, See, Talk

Big Red (the other half) from Anomalous Material

Ripley from Four of Them

Andrew from Encore Entertainment

And, of course, me… your friendly neighborhood Kaiderman. Normally I’d go last but then I remembered it’s my blog and I CAN DO WHATEVER THE HELL I WANT! haha… so, I think I’ll kick this one off! Continue reading

Posted in Film, Movies, Ongoing Lists, Reasons Movies Rule with tags , , , , , , , , on June 19, 2010 by Kaiderman

It’s time for a new entry into our REASONS MOVIES RULE series. Wherein we give you 10 reasons a cult film, be it awesomely good or so bad it’s awesomely good, deserves to be given some respect. This week’s entry: THE KARATE KID.

The REASONS MOVIES RULE series varies from our FILMS YOU DIDN’T KNOW YOU NEEDED TO SEE series a bit in that you’ve probably seen these films but I just don’t think you realize how much they rule!

This film has been forced to the top of my list of films to include in this series ever since last week’s release of the horrible remake (starring Jackie Chan and Jayden Smith) which seems to retain none of the things that made the original so awesome.

So, I present to you, dear readers, 10 reasons THE KARATE KID rules. Here ya go: Continue reading

I don’t know about you guys but my favorite special feature on a DVD has always been the OUTTAKES or the GAG REEL. The problem is most DVD’s that feature them usually suck. However, every now and then they make me laugh until I cry.

These aren’t the greatest outtakes of all time. These just happen to be my favorite. I’m posting these because I’d like to hear what you think and would love to hear of some other great ones out there that I may have missed. Here’s my top 5 all time: Continue reading

JULY’S ULTIMATE FANBOY FILM COMPETITION

Posted in Comic Books, Fanboys, Film, Movies, Ultimate Fanboy Film Competition with tags , , , , on June 7, 2010 by Kaiderman

Napolean, you’re not alone anymore!!!

That’s right, my friends, there was a time when all the geeky things I have loved my entire life weren’t exactly popular to like. A little over a decade ago, Sci-Fi was for dorks, Fantasy was for D & D nerds & Comic Book films did little to capture the attention of the nation. My how things have changed… I like to think we can credit Weezer with this. After all, they did make Geek Chic.

In the past 10 years, that which was once made for the geeks of the world has been embraced by all people. Comic Book, Fantasy, Sci-Fi and Franchise films have single handedly kept the movie business from collapsing entirely. So, I began to wonder, of all the nerdy goodness available to us these days, which film stands out… which is the Geek Opus, if you will.

To find out, I’ve set up a March Madness bracket style tournament that includes the best there is to offer in Fanboy Films. In July, I will post them, head to head, every few days… and you the fan, will be able to vote for your favorites. By August, we will know what the people think is the ULTIMATE FANBOY FILM!!! But I need your help… Continue reading

The REASONS MOVIES RULE series varies from our FILMS YOU DIDN’T KNOW YOU NEEDED TO SEE series a bit in that you’ve probably seen these films but don’t realize just how much they rule!

To help me out this week, I’ve enlisted the help of, fellow Tremors fanatic, Heather Roddy from Movie Mobsters. I’ll let her kick things off… Continue reading

GROOVERS & MOBSTERS PRESENT: GANGSTER MOVIES

“Yes, London. You know: fish, chips, cup ‘o tea, bad food, worse weather, Mary fucking Poppins… LONDON.”

As you know, THE LIST doesn’t typically do reviews… we do LISTS… hence the name… duh!

However, when I was asked by Heather (from MOVIE MOBSTERS) and Andy (from FANDANGO GROOVERS MOVIE BLOG) to be a part of their new ongoing monthly series that looks at different film genres, I couldn’t resist. The idea was to pick a film from a particular genre, in this case Gangster films, and give a short review coupled with thoughts on how the film had impacted it’s particular genre. While reviews bore me to tears to write (mainly cuz I suck at them), the idea of looking how a film could influence a genre as a whole sounded very interesting. So, since most of the classics were taken, I decided to focus on a more recent entry into the world of Gangster movies. I present you with my choice: SNATCH (2000). Continue reading
