OUR 100th POST: ASK US ANYTHING

When I started this site in December, I had no idea what it was going to be. It started off partly to get back in the habit of writing, part to try and make people laugh and part to just unload some of the constant jibberish that weighs down my brain on a daily basis. I started by posting once a week so I wasn’t even sure I’d get to post #100 before the Mayan calendar ended forcing me to abandon the blog and flee with John Cusack and my family  to China to jump on a giant submarine/ ark thingy.

Well, the response has been so overwhelming to this little project that things have progressed faster than I could’ve ever thought they would. Our first week we had 60 visitors. Now, we do that every few hours and this blog has been viewed nearly 35,000 times. We also have our wonderful podcast: MILFcast (aka: the Man, I Love Films podcast) . I appreciate the 100+ of you who have tuned in for our first few episodes. I’m also very grateful of the awesome and kind writing community that has welcomed me with open arms and churned my creative juices (among others… cough… FLETCH… cough). HAHA!!!

Anyways, while this isn’t an anniversary (2 more months till 1 year), it is a big deal. So, to celebrate, I open the floor to you… my faithful readers. A few other bloggers have done this and I think it’s kinda fun. Just ask me anything. As you know from my MEME’s, I always tell the painful truth. Leave any questions in the comments below and I’ll get back to you in 2 shakes of a Lamb’s tail!

MY MOVIE PITCH

My good buddy Castor Troy over Anomalous Material came up with a genius idea. A bunch of us bloggers got together and had a Fantasy Football style draft. Only instead of drafting athletes, we drafted actors, actresses and a director. The goal? To pitch a Hollywood movie featuring our draftees. I was able to put together a pretty stellar cast. FILMS THAT DEFINED US

This is a new MEME put together by Marc (my Zombie loving friend) over at Go, See, Talk! Please, after reading this, stop by and check out some of the other people’s posts that will be popping up all over the blogosphere today. Here’s the basic idea…

We’re all picking a handful of films that had a profound impact on us in our impressionable years. We are also setting out to answer the following about each:

1. What dazzled us about the film at a young age?

2. How the film holds up?

3. Why you think it sets the standard for the genre of choice?

FILMS YOU DIDN’T KNOW I’M NEVER GOING TO SEE

GOREGIRL over at GOREGIRL’S DUNGEON is going to be sooo disappointed in me!

So, as a movie blogger and general film fan, I take great pride in seeing every single film I can get my hands on. No matter how much I don’t want to. You listening Twilight? Damn you for hooking me on your franchise! I see the good, the really bad and the down right ugly. One of my favorite genres over the years has become Horror. I love me a good scare. However, there are 3 films out there I just can’t pull the trigger on. I thought I’d share them with you today.

I should say, before we begin, that this list used to feature 4 films and included Takashi Miike’s Audition (shown above). I had heard the audio for the ending of the film and found it quite disturbing. However, at a friend’s suggestion (talking to you Bruce Wayne), I watched the film and it wasn’t that bad. So maybe “NEVER” is too strong a word but for now I’m sticking with it because these films honestly scare the shit out of me!

Call me a pussy! Call me a coward! Call me what you you will… just don’t call me a liar because here are the 3 films that I’m honestly never going to see. In order:

HEY, CLOCK… TICK FASTER!!!

I have to apologize because I would normally put a new post up today but I am faaaaaar too busy holding my breath. Keep your fingers crossed that this one lives up to the hype! If it does, being that it is an original screenplay, it could have a tremendous effect on the industry going forward. I think it will do fine but apparently Warner Brothers still feels the need to try and capitalize off  the success of the Dark Knight. What do you think?

MOVIE MONOLOGUES I LOVE

 I wouldn’t go so far as to call these the greatest monologues of all time but they are 5 I LOVE. I could have put up audio clips but I think it’s better to see them as they appeared in the script, the way the actor first saw them. Check them out:

I think this one is great because the manner in which it’s delivered. He doesn’t hesitate… he’s knows who he is. Plus, he manages to sound manly and romantic in the same breath.

For those of you new to the site, here’s the idea behind this post:

On a boring Tuesday morning, of a week with no good new releases, I decided to rent a film I stumbled across that I had never even heard of. That film was Oldboy and it proceeded to blow my mind. Since then, I have lent the film to several of my friends and their experience mirrored mine.

This post was put together in an attempt to recreate that experience and hopefully present you with some films that may have flown under your radar. Films that are collecting dust in the “Favorites” aisle of your local video store… waiting to be checked out… and make you say, “How the hell did I miss this film?”

THE REASONS MOVIES RULE: THE KARATE KID

It’s time for a new entry into our REASONS MOVIES RULE series. Wherein we give you 10 reasons a cult film, be it awesomely good or so bad it’s awesomely good, deserves to be given some respect. This week’s entry: THE KARATE KID.

The REASONS MOVIES RULE series varies from our FILMS YOU DIDN’T KNOW YOU NEEDED TO SEE series a bit in that you’ve probably seen these films but I just don’t think you realize how much they rule!

This film has been forced to the top of my list of films to include in this series ever since last week’s release of the horrible remake (starring Jackie Chan and Jayden Smith) which seems to retain none of the things that made the original so awesome.

I THINK I PEED A LITTLE

I don’t know about you guys but my favorite special feature on a DVD has always been the OUTTAKES or the GAG REEL. The problem is most DVD’s that feature them usually suck. However, every now and then they make me laugh until I cry.
