Or did this guy:

… replace this guy:

… as Hollywood’s new cool guy? No doubt Jack is still the King but he’s getting up there in years. And Clooney seems to be slowly taking the reigns as the most charming man in Hollywood. Even going so far as to be the life (and humor) of most award shows. What do you think? Is it just me?

  1. You’re on to something.

Clooney is the one guy who can show up to award shows drunk and say things that are on a level of assholeness and we all still love him after. Plus he’s so-so with his film roles and performances and we still pay to see him in the theater. He’s just old school Hollywood charming, just like Jack.

    Nice call.

  2. Erm…this can be summed up thus-ly: Clooney was Batman in the diabolical cinematic mess “Batman and Robin”; Jack was The Joker (arguably the greatest comic book villain) in one of the best comic book films “Batman”. Contest? There is no contest! 😉

  3. I think this has become quite obvious for some time. Clooney is the definition of the classic Hollywood movie star, probably the only contemporary male actor who you could see standing next old-timers like Cary Grant or Humphrey Bogart. If Hollywood had a mayor, Clooney would be in the chair.

  4. Idk, man. Clooney’s been too dramatic as of late, not that I’m complaining or anything, but the dude needs to go back to his Out of Sight days. And it’s hard to compare anyone to Jack. Just watched Five Easy Pieces for the first time last weekend, and that guy really is one of a kind. What a maniac.

  5. Yes. It is just you. I won’t allow otherwise.

  6. Paragraph Film Reviews Says:

I love Clooney to bits, could chuck him into pretty much anything and he’ll do alright. Probably favourite thing lately has been Burn After Reading, he’s great as a nutjob.

    Good call!

  7. It is not just you.

Who’s the new Mickey Rooney, though?

Oh wait, it’s still Mickey Rooney.

  8. Ten years ago after seeing The Perfect Storm, (that was frankly rubbish) I said that we have probably seen the best of George Clooney and he is now in decline. Out of Sight and From Dusk Till Dawn being the pinnacle of an otherwise average film career. How wrong was I, O Brother, Where Art Thou? Came out later that year and was followed by a succession of great performances. Heather sums it up perfectly “He’s just old school Hollywood charming” I would go beyond that and say that in Up in the Air there is a hint of Cary Grant or Clark Gable that no other modern star has.

  9. He better get a tighter grip before Downey Jr takes it away from him….
