MY MAN CRUSHES

Let me start by saying this: I AM NOT GAY! Not that I’m a homophobe or anything… personally I think it’s a superior lifestyle. 2 men could get so much done in a day! I just don’t want the ladies of the world to read this wondering with baited breath. If you listen closely, you can probably hear their collective sigh of relief right now. That being said, let’s get on with it…

While I don’t have a penchant for penis, there are a few up-and-coming actors out there who I do really like… NAY! Who’s careers I find myself cheering on. Plus, they’re all [switch to Zoolander voice] really, really good looking. Here’s my Top 5 (in order):

5. JEREMY RENNER.

My wife and I actually discovered this man (as we like to think) in 2003 after seeing a little film called Dahmer, in which Renner played the title character. His abilities were present even then. We watched for years as he struggled to find his feet in Hollywood, taking less than stellar roles in films such as North Country and S.W.A.T. However, Renner broke out this year with a fantastic turn in the Best Picture Oscar Winning Film The Hurt Locker and even managed to grab a Best Actor nod for himself. With a part lined up in Paul Thomas Anderson‘s next film, he shows no sign of letting up!

4. CHRIS EVANS.

Anyone who sat through the Fantastic Four films knows that Evans was the best thing they had to offer. However, that didn’t leave me thinking he’d amount to anything special. It was his more interesting turns in films like Push (not based on a novel by Sapphire) and Sunshine that had me thinking this guy has chops. I’ll even admit that I can’t wait to see him kick ass as Captain America: The First Avenger next year… he also kind of reminds me of my #1!

3. BRADLEY COOPER.

When I saw Wedding Crashers I didn’t necessarily think the guy playing the a-hole boyfriend would turn out to be a big star. It was about a year later, when I saw Failure to Launch and an episode of Kitchen Confidential, that I told my wife this guy was going to be big. Who new all it would take was a night of heavy drinking with a bearded comedian, the guy from The Office and that dude from National Treasure. I fear a little that Cooper could be facing a bit of backlash soon due to over-exposure… similar to Jude Law in 2006 & 2007. But who cares? Bring on the A-TEAM!

2. NATHAN FILLION.

Oh, Mal! Fillion is one of 2 stars featured on this list to come out of the show 2 Guys, 1 Cup… WAIT… SORRY! I meant 2 Guys, a Girl & a Pizza Place. That 3rd guy must feel pretty bad about the direction his career has taken. Fillion has struggled to break through to leading man status in films. Even though he’s turned out stellar work in films like Slither, Waitress & White Noise 2: The Light. YEAH! He was in White Noise 2. Fillion has managed to remain a working actor and is currently starring in ABC’s hit show CASTLE. Still, he will always be loved for his turn as Malcolm Reynolds in Joss Whedon‘s cult hit TV show Firefly and the subsequent movie adaptation Serenity. Oh, and he just seems like a nice guy!

1. RYAN REYNOLDS.

What can I say? If I was going to bat for the other team, he’d be the guy! I can’t say I recognized it back when he starred on You Can’t Do That On Television. However, I did tell my wife after watching the aforementioned 2 Guys, a Girl & a Pizza Place, that this guy was going to be a big star. It appears my prediction has come true. Reynolds has quickly become an A-list star and his name has found it’s way on to the short list of go to leading men. I think it’s the way he manages to deliver his lines with such sarcasm while managing to avoid appearing condescending… if that makes sense. If not, just go watch Van Wilder. I also like that he managed to marry Scarlett Johanssen and yet we don’t see him in the tabloids everyday. That’s to be admired. Plus, I’ve heard other celebrities say, in real life, he’s one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet.
