If there’s one thing Hollywood is good at, it’s leaving the general population dazed and confused with their decision making. One area that has always left me completely bewildered is the casting of major stars as the voices of Animated characters. Dreamworks is NOTORIOUS for this! Look at the voice cast for a film like Antz or Shark Tale and you’ll see what I mean. The amount of A-List celebrities lending their names to these films would drive a live-action film’s budget over 100 million just to pay the cast. And the problem is, this doesn’t always make for the best voice performance.

Pixar has worked with A-Listers over the years but has proven that they are always looking for the best voice and not necessarily the biggest name (Albert Brooks in Nemo, Craig T. Nelson in The Incredibles). That’s to be commended. I always figured why not save on budget and look for a great voice in the world of up-and-comers or has-beens… Judd Nelson for Scar in The Lion King anyone… maybe not. But you get my point.

Still, every now and then, an actor comes on board that not only suits a character but, one could argue, was born to voice the role. This is no small task, which makes for a short list. However, a list is what we must make so I present you with this weeks: FAVORITE CELEBRITY ANIMATED PERFORMANCES. Continue reading

That’s right, boys and girls, I have a special treat for you this week. And I don’t mean the “razor in the apple” kind. It’s time once again to perform a much needed public service. That being to present you with some films that deserve to be seen but may have managed to fly under the radar of the general movie going audience. As you can imagine, this is no small undertaking. So, I’ve called in reinforcements…

Some of my favorite movie bloggers will be joining me this week to present some of their favorite gems that can be found at your local video store. Among them: Ross Mcg & Ross McD of Ross v Ross, Aiden from Cut The Crap Movie Reviews, Paul from Paragraph Film Reviews, M. Carter from M. Carter @ the Movies, Castor Troy from Anomalous Material. I have included links to each of their sites at the end of their sections. You can also find them through my Blogroll on the right side of my Home Page. Please, take the time to check out their sites as they all have their own unique voices and are all a ton of fun.

We will each be presenting 3 Films for your consideration. Ross & Ross will be working together…  that’s just how they roll! Hopefully, the collective thousands of hours we’ve spent watching Movies, both good and bad, will provide some real treats for you.

So, now, I present you with this week’s list: MORE FILMS YOU DIDN’T KNOW YOU NEEDED TO SEE. Continue reading

Well, I was going to broach sequels this week but I have ADHD and, at the last second, decided to go in another direction. I decided why not take a look at a much stranger animal… the Threequel.

NOTE: For our purposes here, Threequel will refer to the third movie in a series and may or may not have “Part 3” in the title.

Threequels are very interesting in that if a 3rd movie in a series is being put out, chances are it’s based on a very popular property. Chances are also good that you were very excited to see it. And, of course, chances are Part 3 just wasn’t that good. See, Threequels are typically just formulaic concoctions, featuring characters you know and love, designed to suck out everything else that drew you to a franchise in the first place. However, they can also be something else. They can also redeem a series of films that lost their way on the always difficult Part 2. While this is rare, it does happen. And I thought it’d be interesting to look at some of the films that got it right. So, away we go, as I present you with this week’s list: GREATEST THREEQUELS. Continue reading

I figure this way you also have plenty of time to criticize my choices. So, without further ado, I present you with this weeks list: 2010 OSCAR PICKS. Continue reading
